The Sanctity of Life

Day 1: The Value of Human Life

Key Scripture Verse: Genesis 9:6 (ESV)

"Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image."

Short Devotional:

Today, let's meditate on the profound truth that every human life is sacred because it reflects the image of God. In a world where value is often determined by appearance, ability, or utility, God's Word reminds us that the intrinsic worth of a person comes from being made in His image. This truth underscores the sanctity of life from conception to natural death.

Discussion Question:

How does understanding that every person is made in the image of God affect the way we view and treat others?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for creating each of us in Your image. Help us to honor and respect the value of every human life, from the unborn to the elderly. Give us hearts of compassion and eyes to see others as You see them. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 2: Conception and the Image of God

Key Scripture Verse: Genesis 5:3 (ESV)

"When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth."

Short Devotional:

Reflect on the significance of conception as the moment when the image of God is imparted to a new life. Just as Adam passed on his image to his son Seth, every child conceived carries the imprint of their Creator. This truth highlights the value and dignity of life from its earliest stages.

Discussion Question:

How does recognizing the divine image in every unborn child shape our understanding of abortion?

Prayer:

Lord, we praise You for the miracle of life and the beauty of creation. Help us to cherish and protect the unborn, knowing that they bear Your image. Give us courage to stand for the sanctity of life in a world that often devalues it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 3: Life for a Life

Key Scripture Verse: Exodus 21:23 (ESV)

"But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life."

Short Devotional:

Consider the principle of justice laid out in Scripture regarding the protection of the unborn. In God's law, causing harm to a pregnant woman resulting in the loss of her child carries a severe penalty. This underscores the equal value God places on the lives of both the mother and the unborn child.

Discussion Question:

How does the concept of "life for life" in the Old Testament law challenge our cultural attitudes towards abortion?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Your justice is perfect, and Your ways are righteous. Help us to uphold the sanctity of life and seek justice for the vulnerable, including the unborn. Give us wisdom and courage to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 4: Fighting Temptation

Key Scripture Verse: Matthew 5:21 (ESV)

"You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.'"

Short Devotional:

Examine the temptations and struggles surrounding the issue of abortion. In a world that often presents abortion as a solution to challenges and difficulties, Christians are called to resist temptation and stand firm in the truth of God's Word. Let us rely on His strength to combat the cultural pressures and uphold the sanctity of life.

Discussion Question:

What are some practical ways we can support and encourage those facing unplanned pregnancies to choose life?

Prayer:

Gracious God, in moments of temptation, grant us the strength to choose what is right and pleasing to You. Help us to extend love and support to those in difficult circumstances, pointing them towards life-affirming choices. May Your Spirit guide us in all our actions. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 5: Finding Forgiveness

Key Scripture Verse: 1 Timothy 1:15 (ESV)

"The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost."

Short Devotional:

Reflect on the boundless grace and forgiveness offered through Jesus Christ. For those who have been involved in abortion or supported it, there is hope and healing at the foot of the cross. Let us remember that in Christ, our sins are washed away, and we are made new.

Discussion Question:

How does the gospel offer hope and restoration to those who have been affected by abortion?

Prayer:

Merciful Savior, we thank You for Your unfailing love and grace poured out for us on the cross. Bring healing and restoration to all who have been wounded by the pain of abortion. May they find solace and forgiveness in Your redeeming love. We praise You for Your mercy. In Jesus' name, Amen.
